Stress reduction and management - a little bit at a time…

For many people, including me, stress significantly hinders progress towards achieving goals.  It’s widely known that stress has numerous affects on our state of mind, but our state of mind also affects our physiology.  In turn, physiologic problems created by stress, affects our state of mind.  This creates a vicious cycle that makes things worse.  Stress that isn’t properly managed can contribute to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.  As much as we’d like for our stress to be gone tomorrow, the chances of that happening are slim to none.  Yet, reducing stress to more manageable levels can be done a little bit a time.

An increasing number of methods exist for reducing and managing the stress in your life, but having a wellness plan for doing so helps you stay on track.  Reducing and managing stress starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. This process isn’t always easy, but is an important first step.  Identifying sources of stress, means looking closely at your habits, attitudes, and even the excuses we make.

A health coach can help you develop a wellness plan for reducing and managing your stress.  Many of our members have benefited from the wellness plan that was developed with their coach.  Your health coach can help you learn healthier ways for managing stress by developing strategies for dealing with stressful situations, adjusting your attitudes about stress, and helping you adopt a healthier lifestyle.

It’s important to remember that reducing and managing stress happens a little bit at a time.  Yet, the physiologic benefits of stress management are numerous.  So we should always be looking for ways to improve the ways we cope with stress.
